Scoring

I have all my ballplayer scenes into the game and their corresponding buttons appear to be working properly. My problem is maintaining the score and the roster lineup as I switch from player to player.

I looked online for any ideas on writing a code that would help me achieve this outcome. I tried several ideas, but no luck yet.

Getting Closer....

I have built all my games scenes for each of my 27 ballplayers. I can successfully add points and the ballplayer name to the scoring box and the lineup respectively, however I can only do it for one player at a time. When I move from position to position to select another ballplayer, it then wipes the score and the lineup clean and starts over again.

What I need it to do is to lock out a position once that position has been filled and hold the scoring and lineup intact til the next player is added...for instance...

A player correctly chooses a players home country and the points are added to the scoring box and the players name added to the lineup ... p - Hernandez 1000 i.e., no more pitchers can be chosen the spot is filled.

Then the player chooses a catcher ... I need the info for Hernandez, points and name in lineup, to be saved and once a catcher is correctly chosen ... c- Soto 2000 (1000 + Hernadez's 1000) and Soto to be added to the lineup and the catcher position locked out.

I will keep working and looking for help!

More players....

I am continuing to add more baseball players to my game scenes. This means getting a picture of the ballplayer, making a hint for the game and moving the button to the appropriate country. I am somewhat limited by available nationalities of the ballplayers. As one would imagine most the players at present are from the USA, Caribbean and recently Asia. There's just not too many ballplayers Kygryzstan...

Continuing to work on Wiki 2

I am continuing to work on my game. Most of that work entails copying on of my game scenes, but customizing it to each individual baseball player in my game. I am also working on getting my game to properly score as players either correctly or incorrectly identify a ballplayers home country. I am considering adding sound to my game if time permits.

Wiki 2

First day of Wiki 2 and feeling pretty lost. I worked/fumbled around with my timeline ... still need to figure out the last day to withdraw without penalty.

Final day of class!

All in all I am pretty satisfied with my game efforts. I was able to utilize the "skeleton" and give a pretty realistic presentation of how I would like the game to work. Even though working in flash can be frustrating...I feel as though I'd like to complete my game and see how people enjoy it.

One more day.... uh oh!

I would change my knowledge of Flash. I will try to work with this program more and possibly by a manual, if I can find one that presents the information clearly for a first-timer. I like my game idea and hope to expand it into a full working version, maybe adding music too! Well off to the medicine cabinet to cure my 9-12 headache....

Continuing to scratch and claw.

I am continuing to scratch and claw at my assignment. Once I get through this part I will be able to apply to the rest of my game. I intend on completing my game to full working capabilities. Or I may just take some aspirin and relax...

New ideas!

I am learning how the various Adobe programs can interrelate to one another in creating a Flash game. I have also learned a great deal about creating a scene using Flash. It has taught me some design tips that could be applied to other projects. I have found not only the teacher, but several students to be very helpful with their knowledge of Flash. The tutorials are nice, but I can't watch 13 minutes and then remember all the steps necessary to get my project where I want it to be. I believe personally I learn better by trial and error ... and with the help of my instructor and classmates.

A game I like ...

I found this game on sporcle.com under the geography section. I have enjoyed playing it over the past few months from time to time. A player has to remember and properly spell the names of all the countries of the world.

My idea for my wiki game incorporates the knowledge needed to find a country on an unnamed map and will provide the player with a geographical hint to help the player know the name of the country, but you will still have to identify properly the first time on the map! Players will just have to click on the proper country to get credit.

Allstar Agent!

I'm designing my game for baseball fans of all ages. My ideal player might be a 9 year old kid, who loves following baseball, and is starting to learn about the countries of the world. But it will work for all ages, as recent studies show that most adults can only find a handful of countries on the globe. My game will teach the players to pinpoint different countries on a world map, and learn about the ballplayers from those countries.
The game will happen on the map of a world, with an activity sidebar to show score, roster, and the position players from which to choose. The players will learn visually by choosing countries from an unmarked map of the world.
Players will have to select the proper country on the map, which coincides with the players nationality, to score points.
They will receive useful factual tips about the country to help them to identify the country. They will also learn about the baseball player from this country.
They will use the tips to pinpoint the name of the country, and then have to find it on the world map.
This game is better because it provides a visual learning opportunity for the player.

Mini-game exercise

Today I completed the mini-game exercise which taught us how to write simple code commands into a game. I think it will be a pretty good challenge to adapt those techniques to the game which we are individually creating.

I'm going to make a game take utilizes the nationally of Major League Baseball players to teach world geography. Users will follow leads and collect players from countries around the world based upon the leads ... if they go to the wrong country they will be penalized.

Some of the following links helped me figure out the names and nationalities of MLB players,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_baseball_outside_the_United_States

What type of game to create?

I think that I am most interested in creating a puzzle game or a strategy game. I think these appeal to me as the most applicable to a learning exercise for the player. Some of the other ones may be much more advantageous as a learning experience for the game builder. I personally enjoy puzzle and strategy games so that is probably why I am interested in creating one of these type games.

Internet Safety

With the explosion of social media, it has become extremely important to be relevant of your internet personal safety. While financial crimes and identity theft receive a large majority of media attention, there are certainly other safety issues abounding in the world of social media. Nobody needs to know your name, phone number, or address to enjoy your work and your opinions. Protect your identity, watch out for others, be civil and respectful, and turn social media into a powerful tool for good.
The final out on Opening Day.

Welcome May 16 2011

Bentuibi welcomes everyone to my blog! I hope to learn about social media and it's use in communicating in the 21st century. I'm new to the game building aspect of this course, but I'm sure that principles learned in that area can be used in other ones.
