A game I like ...

I found this game on sporcle.com under the geography section. I have enjoyed playing it over the past few months from time to time. A player has to remember and properly spell the names of all the countries of the world.

My idea for my wiki game incorporates the knowledge needed to find a country on an unnamed map and will provide the player with a geographical hint to help the player know the name of the country, but you will still have to identify properly the first time on the map! Players will just have to click on the proper country to get credit.

Allstar Agent!

I'm designing my game for baseball fans of all ages. My ideal player might be a 9 year old kid, who loves following baseball, and is starting to learn about the countries of the world. But it will work for all ages, as recent studies show that most adults can only find a handful of countries on the globe. My game will teach the players to pinpoint different countries on a world map, and learn about the ballplayers from those countries.
The game will happen on the map of a world, with an activity sidebar to show score, roster, and the position players from which to choose. The players will learn visually by choosing countries from an unmarked map of the world.
Players will have to select the proper country on the map, which coincides with the players nationality, to score points.
They will receive useful factual tips about the country to help them to identify the country. They will also learn about the baseball player from this country.
They will use the tips to pinpoint the name of the country, and then have to find it on the world map.
This game is better because it provides a visual learning opportunity for the player.

Mini-game exercise

Today I completed the mini-game exercise which taught us how to write simple code commands into a game. I think it will be a pretty good challenge to adapt those techniques to the game which we are individually creating.

I'm going to make a game take utilizes the nationally of Major League Baseball players to teach world geography. Users will follow leads and collect players from countries around the world based upon the leads ... if they go to the wrong country they will be penalized.

Some of the following links helped me figure out the names and nationalities of MLB players,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_baseball_outside_the_United_States

What type of game to create?

I think that I am most interested in creating a puzzle game or a strategy game. I think these appeal to me as the most applicable to a learning exercise for the player. Some of the other ones may be much more advantageous as a learning experience for the game builder. I personally enjoy puzzle and strategy games so that is probably why I am interested in creating one of these type games.

Internet Safety

With the explosion of social media, it has become extremely important to be relevant of your internet personal safety. While financial crimes and identity theft receive a large majority of media attention, there are certainly other safety issues abounding in the world of social media. Nobody needs to know your name, phone number, or address to enjoy your work and your opinions. Protect your identity, watch out for others, be civil and respectful, and turn social media into a powerful tool for good.
The final out on Opening Day.

Welcome May 16 2011

Bentuibi welcomes everyone to my blog! I hope to learn about social media and it's use in communicating in the 21st century. I'm new to the game building aspect of this course, but I'm sure that principles learned in that area can be used in other ones.
